A powerful and quite rich expression of this excellent site in Volnay that has some of the floral beauty of this appellation, but more red fruit and some ripe blackberry. The generous and quite full body is well supported by the fine tannins and a touch of biscuit character. Long, supple finish that pulls you back for more. From the first vineyard that the Bouchard family purchased in 1775. It lies in the middle of the slope, where the clay soil is shallow. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold.
 
Producer Notes
According to tradition, "who has no vines in Caillerets, does not know what Volnay is worth". Qualified as "Tête de cuvée" in the 1855 rating by Dr. Lavalle, this appellation is the very example of finesse, elegance and gracefulness. The 3.76 hectares of this exceptional Premier Cru have a particular meaning for Bouchard Père & Fils, since it was the first vineyard bought by the House in 1775. The Carnot family who owned the land is still mentioned on the bottles "Ancienne Cuvée Carnot".

Founded in 1731, Maison Bouchard Père & Fils is one of Burgundy’s oldest wine merchant houses.  Over the centuries, the House has been devoted to acquiring highly renowned parcels, in order to build a prestigious domaine: 130 hectares of Crus. Installed since the beginning of the 19th century on the site of the ancient Châteaude Beaune, Maison Bouchard Père & Fils uses the underground galleries and bastions of this fortress built by LuisXI, 10 meters below ground, for the slow maturing of its wines under optimal conditions. Millions of bottles, including a rare collection of pre-phylloxera wines rest in the cellars today protected by 7 meter thick walls.
