This is a dense wine with concentration and power. Its pepper and tobacco aroma lead to solid black fruits layered with wood. The estate dates its origins to 1292, currently owned by the Perrin family.

The density and mouthfeel to this young Bordeaux are very attractive with velvety tannins that give it a juicy and pretty texture. It’s medium-bodied, showing currants, blackberries, black cherries and hints of chocolate and spice. Delicious finish. Hard not to drink now, but it needs at least three or four years of bottle aging to bring it around to a good spot.

The 2022 Chateau Carbonnieux (50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, and 5% each Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot) might be the finest I've tasted from this château. Its deep ruby/plum hue is followed by a ripe, seamless Grave revealing ripe black cherry and red plum fruit as well as some smoky tobacco and earthy nuances, medium to full body, a pure, layered mouthfeel, and outstanding length. It's a ripe, opulent, yet nicely balanced 2022 that will have two decades of longevity. Drink 2025-2045.
- Chateau Carbonnieux is one of the oldest and largest wine estates in the Bordeaux region. Its history extends over almost 8 centuries and its vineyard over a 100 hectares in size. Belonging to the Perrin Family for 4 generations, the whole vineyard is located around the castle at the top of a superb gravel hill. All the wines produced depend on the Pessac-Leognan AOP. The vines cultivated in a sustainable and eco-responsible agriculture are devoted to exclusively producing red and dry white wines, both of which are qualified as Grands Crus Classes de Graves.
- In 1953, 14 chateaux from the Graves region were honored with the title of “Crus Classés” (Classified Growths), either for their white wines or red wines or both. Chateau Carbonnieux was renowned for its two colors. There are only 6 Chateaux (Bouscaut, Chevalier, Latour-Martillac, Malartic-Lagravière, Olivier and Carbonnieux) among the 9000+ wineries from the Bordeaux region that have a classification for both their red and white wines. The 14 “Crus Classés” from the Graves region have been in the Pessac-Léognan AOP since it was created in 1987.
- Chateau Carbonnieux Red has for centuries been a great classic among the finest wines in the region of Bordeaux. With its high standard of quality, it is the smooth result of an excellent blending of grape varieties from this region: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc & Petit Verdot. The vinification, both modern and traditional of red wines, is carried out by slow and gentle extraction in order to preserve the roundness of the wine and the mineral features of the soil. The tannins are well balanced and silky in harmony with red fruits (blackcurrant, blackberry, cherry…) and reveal toasted notes from ageing in the finest quality French oak barrels. Only the very best batches tasted are selected for the final blending of Chateau Carbonnieux Red wines.
