94-Points by Wine Enthusiast.

Made by Schramsberg.

Brightened by red cherries and cinnamon in the aromas and flavors, this wine offers everything in good balance. Light tannins and a nip of acidity support its ripe red- and black-cherry flavors that are accented subtly with baking spices from oak aging.

  • Barrel Aging: 15 months in French oak, 29% new, 35% once used
  • Clones: 828, 777, Pommard, 667, 115
  • Vineyard Profile

  • The Ferrington Vineyards property, located approximately 100 miles north of San Francisco and 17 miles inland from the Pacific Ocean, is in a fertile pocket of land found at the edge of the northeastern foothills of Mendocino County’s Anderson Valley. Between 360 and 440 feet above sea level, the vines utilize over six feet of Boontling and Pinole loam soil, sustainable farming practices, and deficit irrigation to produce approximately 2.5 tons per acre of bright, complex fruit with great balance. Cool, foggy nights and steadily warming days provide a long, even growing season which delivers mature fruit depth with a vibrant, acidic backbone.

  • The Davies family of Schramsberg Vineyards and Davies Vineyards in the Napa Valley is pleased to release its eleventh vintage of Pinot Noir still wines. The family’s experience with Pinot Noir dates back to 1967, when Jack and Jamie Davies first used this elegant red varietal to make their inaugural vintage of Schramsberg Blanc de Noirs sparkling wine. Over the 54 years following that first use, Schramsberg’s winemakers have built long-lasting relationships with some of the best Pinot Noir growers along the North Coast. Developing upon this passion, history and experience, second-generation Vintner Hugh Davies and Director of Winemaking Sean Thompson are proud to present this vineyard-designate Pinot Noir wine from the 2019 vintage.

  • Schramsberg Vineyards is one of the oldest wineries in the Napa Valley, located in the Calistoga AVA (American Viticultural Area). It was established in 1862 and today, produces predominately sparkling wine from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
  • It was Jacob Schram who planted the estate vineyards and initiated the construction of Napa's first hillside caves to store and age wine at Schramsberg. It was throughout the early 20th Century that Schramsberg became famous for its sparkling wines, made in the methode traditionnelle, which have been served at official functions by every US Presidential administration since Richard Nixon in 1972.
  • The inaugural vintage of current proprietors was in 1967, composed of a Blanc de Noirs labeled "Napa Valley Champagne". By the 1980s, Schramsberg had added a vintage-dated Blanc de Blancs and a prestige cuvée, J. Schram, to its portfolio. Nowadays, there is also a rosé, a crémant demi-sec, an extra brut, and several sparkling wines from specific North Coast appellations.
  • Schramsberg produces its sparkling wines from Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Flora sourced from multiple cool-climate vineyard sites in Napa, Sonoma, Anderson Valley, and in Marin County. There is also 17 hectares (41 acres) of vines in the Napa appellation of Diamond Mountain planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, used for the production of still wines under Schramsberg's Davies Vineyards label.
  • In the cellar, Schramsberg has a library of base wines aged up to 10 years in barrel to provide richness in the final blend. The wines spend a minimum of two years aging on the lees at the property's historic underground caves before disgorgement.
