Winery tasting notes

The nose exudes small red fruits combined with notes of oak and spice. The palate offers good balance, rich aromas, and delicate tannins resulting in a very distinctive wine with exceptional aromatic persistence.

Aging: 15 months in French oak barrels, 30% new oak.

Acquired by our family in 1971, Le Clos du Roy is considered as one of the best climates in the appellation and an historic Premier Cru in Mercurey. Benefiting from a south-south-west exposure, its cool, compact clay-limestone soil composed of white marl has the advantage of warming up quickly, imparting fine tannins worthy of the great villages of the Côte de Nuits..

  • Founded in 1825, Bourgognes Faiveley has been handed down from father to son for over 175 years. As the sixth generation to take the reins, François Faiveley manages, with equal amounts passion and competence, the largest family domaine in Burgundy. Methodically reconstructing vineyards fractured by French inheritance laws, Bourgognes Faiveley today owns more appellations in their entirety (monopoles) than any other domaine in Burgundy.

"Faiveley’s wines are... supremely clean and elegant: definitive examples of Pinot Noir... above all they have richness and breed, the thumbprint of a master winemaker."

    -Clive Coates M.W.
