95-Points by James Suckling.

A classic, distinctive and compelling red. So leafy, floral and tea-like in aromas, then fresh, concentrated and generous on the palate, offering red cherries, sour cherries, black tea, bay leaves and blueberries backed by vibrant acidity and light tannins. Drink now or hold.

95-Points by The Wine Palate.

Medium to deep ruby-purple colored, the 2023 Wester Reach Pinot Noir soars with intense notes of black raspberries, freshly crushed black cherries, and spearmint, leading to hints of violets and charcoal. The medium to full-bodied palate is plush and bright with bags of blackberry flavors and a fine-grained texture, finishing with great length and a refreshing lift

Comprised of three of DuMOL's region's unique sub-districts, this wine blends fruits from the valley itself, with vineyards further west, stretching out to the coolest 'reaches' of the appellation's high elevation coastal ridge.

The wine's broad base is centered upon the coastal DuMOL Estate with dark fruit intensity, savory spice, and bright vibrancy. At higher elevation on a ridgetop overlooking the Green Valley, Dutton Ranch offers soaring red and black fruit characters of beautiful purity. On the deeper silty/clays of the Santa Rosa Plains, Occidental Road provides broad fruit extract and textural richness. Flax Estate overlooking the river in the Middle Reach weaves in volume, structure, and density from hillside volcanic soils. Placida on the Laguna Ridge ripens late with impressive texture and lingering mossy complexity

DuMOL is an acclaimed and sought-after small producer based in Sonoma County's Russian River Valley in California. It makes a selection of site-expressive wines from the Russian River and Sonoma Coast predominantly from Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Small lots of Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chenin Blanc and (probably most unusually) Mencia are also grown and produced from top vineyard sites in Sonoma and Napa.

The business is based in Windsor, nine miles north of Santa Rosa. There are currently six estate vineyards, and over two decades DuMOL has developed strong relations with some of the state's top growers to source or farm fruit on contract from over 20 further sites.

Most of the wines are single-vineyard bottlings. These are released via allocations to DuMOL's consumer mailing list and to select restaurants around the world.

The Highland Divide label is used for multi-vineyard blends of estate-grown Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. These wines are designed to be fruit-forward and drinkable on release. The name describes the zone which divides the valley floor of the Russian River from the Sonoma Coast, regarded as the optimal grapegrowing location. DuMOL also offers their Wester Reach label with Pinot Noir and Chardonnay to select restaurants and retailers.

The small production team is lead by winemaker, viticulturalist and partner Andy Smith. He has been with DuMOL since 1997.
