A great new Napa Red from former Screaming Eagle Winemaker Andy Erickson and vineyard manager Anne Favia, Napa's newest superstar winemaking team. A fantastic value for such pedigree and quality wine.

Winemaker's Notes

The 2022 proprietary blend of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Petite Sirah, 6% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc, 3% Syrah and 2% Petit Verdot highlight some of the best growing regions in Northern California, including Red Hills, Coombsville, and Moon Mountain. It spends 15 months in 100% French Oak 25% new and the rest in 2–3-year-old barrels.

A selection of notable vineyards, predominantly from mountainside sites with volcanic-based soils, including Obsidian Ridge Vineyard (Red Hills AVA) Wild Diamond Vineyard (Red Hills AVA) Rancho Salina Vineyard (Moon Mountain AVA) and Faust Vineyard (Coombsville AVA) The 2022 Leviathan reveals distinct aromas of blackberry bramble, black cherry, and chaparral. Savory spices and star anise meld with mineral, graphite, bay, and laurel reflective of our rocky Northern California terrain. With finely structured tannins, this wine is silky and elegant-yet persistent. It is approachable now and built to cellar for 10-plus years.

92 Points, Joe Czerwinski, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Surprisingly, the 2022 Leviathan Red Wine may outshine the 2021 vintage. A blend of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Petite Sirah, 6% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc, 3% Syrah and 2% Petit Verdot, it's loaded with black cherries and cassis. Still not overly complex, it's a big, full-bodied and crowd-pleasing red wine that proves you don't need to have residual sugar or use Mega Purple to fill this niche. Velvety textured, fruit forward and long on the finish, it's a fun, easy-drinking wine at a regular-person price.

San Francisco Chronicle"New Cult Wineries to Watch: Leviathan":  "If Andy Erickson is normally low key, he's almost mum about this blend...but for his devotees, it's a chance to access the Screaming Eagle winemaker's talents for under $150 - far less than most of his projects, which also include Hartwell and Arietta...features the joint talents of his wife, Annie Favia, one of Napa Valley top viticulturists."

  • Capturing decades of winemaking experience and vineyard knowledge, renowned winemaker Andy Erickson began Leviathan in 2004 with a single goal; to create a red wine each vintage free from the restraints of appellations and crafted from notable vineyards throughout California. Every year he coaxes the very best from each of the chosen varietals, regions, and vineyards to create one distinct and exceptional red blend.
  • Andy Erickson and Nicole Hayden, Grower Relations, utilize the whole state of California as their appellation, looking across the state to find great vineyards to make one blend each year. “We don’t see the individual appellations because we’re not thinking that way anymore. We’re looking at the entire slice of the west coast and turning the whole appellation idea on its head.”- Andy Erickson, Winemaker.
  • The wine reflects the nuances and terroir of each notable site and the collaboration between the grower and the winemaker. Leviathan is a powerful Red Blend, and that power is derived from hard working vines mostly found in rocky hillsides with volcanic based soils, along with the right combination of micro-climate and variety.
