100-Points by Wilfred Wong.
The 2022 Louis Latour Château Corton Grancey—the crown jewel of the Louis Latour portfolio—never fails to command attention. It reveals a layered tapestry of black fruits, dried earth, wild herbs, ripe strawberries, and piquant spice.
98-Points by James Suckling.
Complex meaty and spicy nose. This effortlessly marries the wild and refined sides of this Grand Cru! The fruit character stands on a mighty tower of tannins that are at once fine and slightly herbal. What an amazingly energetic finish!
97-Points by Wine Spectator #90 Wine Spectator Top 100 2024
Rich and spicy, this red features ample cherry, raspberry, rose hip and stony mineral flavors. Silky, yet with a fine underpinning of refined tannins, ending in a resonant aftertaste. The terrific harmony, structure and length signal its future potential. Best from 2027 through 2045. 1,700 cases made, 450 cases imported.
Winemaker Notes
Dark ruby in color, the 2022 Château Corton Grancey reveals a spicy nose with notes of blackberry, pepper and undergrowth. The palate is full and suave, with aromas of licorice, coffee and cherry. The finish is beautifully fresh and long-lasting. It is a blend of five areas of Domaine Latour Corton Grand Cru: Bressandes, Perrières, Grèves, Clos du Roi, and Chaumes, the proportions of which vary depending on the vintage. The average age of the vines is over 40 years. After aging individually, only the best barrels are assembled to create the Château Corton Grancey. It is a wine that is produced only if the grapes are of a perfect maturity, vintages judged inferior are systematically declassified.
- Corton is a grand cru appellation covering the slopes of the famous Montagne de Corton hill in the Côte de Beaune district of Burgundy. It is the largest grand cru vineyard in Burgundy, and is one of only two where wines are made from both Pinot Noir and Chardonnay (the other is the Musigny vineyard). Corton's wines were a favorite of the Emperor Charlemagne, who lends his name to the white wines made on the western side of the hill.
- Established in 1797, the company today continues to be family owned and operated. The domaine has the largest grand cru vineyard holdings of any producer in Burgundy.
- Maison Louis Latour is one of the most highly-respected négociant-éléveurs in Burgundy. Maison Louis Latour is the producer of some of the finest Burgundian wines but has also pioneered the production of fine wines from outside Burgundy's confines. These wines from the Ardèche and the Côteaux de Verdon are slowly gaining esteem for their unmatchable quality outside Burgundy.
- All the grapes from the vineyards owned by the Latour family are vinified and aged in the attractive cuverie of Chateau Corton Grancey in Aloxe-Corton. The winery was the first purpose-built cuverie in France and remains the oldest still functioning. A unique railway system with elevators allows the entire wine-making process to be achieved by the use of gravity. This eliminates the threat of oxidation from unnecessary pumping of the must. Since 1985, Louis Latour has been selling the wines of its own vineyards under the name Domaine Louis Latour.
- Louis Latour has been a leader in environmentally responsible winemaking for over 15 years. Louis Latour has had ISO 14001 accreditation for Environmental Management Systems since 2003 and has been part of the European association FARRE since 1998- a group of like-minded companies who seek to develop and promote sustainable methods of agriculture.
- Louis Latour is distributed to many countries across the world, and is one of the most easily recognized producers of Burgundy. In 1997, the company was admitted into the Hénokiens club which is exclusively for companies that remain family owned, have operated for over 200 years and still bear the name of the founder.
