Rich and succulent, like biting into a crunchy cherry, this red also delivers blackberry, violet, stone and earth accents. Lithe and well-delineated, firming up on the long, tightly wound finish. Though more about the minerality and structure in the end, this is balanced and full of energy. Only 250 cases made, 60 cases imported.
 
Corton is a grand cru appellation covering the slopes of the famous Montagne de Corton hill in the Côte de Beaune district of Burgundy. It is the largest grand cru vineyard in Burgundy, and is one of only two where wines are made from both Pinot Noir and Chardonnay (the other is the Musigny vineyard). Corton's wines were a favorite of the Emperor Charlemagne, who lends his name to the white wines made on the western side of the hill.
 
Established in 1797, the company today continues to be family owned and operated. The domaine has the largest grand cru vineyard holdings of any producer in Burgundy.
Maison Louis Latour is one of the most highly-respected négociant-éléveurs in Burgundy. All the grapes from the vineyards owned by the Latour family are vinified and aged in the attractive cuverie of Chateau Corton Grancey in Aloxe-Corton. The winery was the first purpose-built cuverie in France and remains the oldest still functioning. A unique railway system with elevators allows the entire wine-making process to be achieved by the use of gravity. This eliminates the threat of oxidation from unnecessary pumping of the must. Since 1985, Louis Latour has been selling the wines of its own vineyards under the name Domaine Louis Latour.
