97-Points by Robert Parker.

One of Mastrojanni's two crus, Vigna Loreto is only produced when it doesn't compromise the quality of the regular Brunello. Vigna Loreta is a small single vineyard, and has aromas that are forward with menthol, sweet chewing tobacco, and saddle leather. It is full-bodied, with notes of red plum, vanilla, and licorice, firm, youthful tannins, and a broad, long finish. Luxurious and youthful with tension, hold for 3-5 years and enjoy 2024-2036.

  • Italy's first DOCG in July 1980, alongside Piedmont's Barolo.
  • Brunello di Montalcino is a red DOCG Italian wine produced in the vineyards surrounding the town of Montalcino, in the province of Siena, located about 80 km south of Florence, in the Tuscan wine region.
  • Aging

    Brunello: 4-2-4

    Brunello Riserva: 5-2-6

  • Brunello (annata): minimum 4 years of aging, including at least 2 years in wood and at least 4 months in bottle; it can be released starting January 1 of the 5th year after harvest.

  • Brunello Riserva: minimum 5 years of aging, including at least 2 years in wood and at least 6 months in bottle; release is January 1 of the 6th year after harvest.

  • Sangiovese Grosso or Prugnolo Gentile (locally Brunello): Noted for having thicker-skinned berries, and because of this, Brunello produces wines with exceptionally bold fruit flavors, high tannin, and high acidity.

  • The Mastrojanni winery lies in Castelnuovo dell’Abate, in the south eastern most corner of Montalcino Municipality, in the Province of Siena. An artistic and architectural heritage, surrounded by the majesty of its natural landscapes and, above all, an area particularly suitable for vine cultivation: the homeland of Brunello.
  • Intertwining iridescent geologies: clays, millenary cobblestone debris, tuffs and sandstones. The strong salinity of the ground and the temperature range must be carefully understood. The climate is influenced by Mount Amiata, an ancient extinct volcano that stands high above the horizon with its 1 mile height. The estate stretches over 240 acres, 80 of which are cultivated with vines, 42 for Brunello, with vineyards from 8 to 41 years old. The altitude of the vineyards varies from 620 to 1340 feet high. The vine exposure is towards the south-east, with more and less steep slopes.
